Hi! We wish Barrie residents could have the right to raise chickens in their own yards, again.
I know we used to be able to. Some of my neighbours used to and it was great. We want to raise our own eggs,
to be healthier and more self sustaining. Can we fight the bylaw that bans Barrie residents from keeping fowl?
Thanx for listening and we look forward to your ideas on this issue.

Hi again. We are new to your group so we don’t know if this wish has already been discussed already. We just discovered a “Freecycle” in the Annex, Toronto. They post items they no longer want and are free to pick up, as well as posting items they desire. Saves our resources and eliminates spending money. I wish we could do that! (We have a queen size waterbed available for free, and we are looking for a small bookcase – lol!)
Thanx for listening,
Christine & Fred
I was just wondering what the status of the situation on keeping chickens in Barrie. I have just moved to Barrie and I want to raise my own eggs for healthy food. I hope this issue has been resolved.
Hello! I would also like to see a change in the bylaw which prohibits keeping “domestic fowl” in our own backyards. I would love to legally keep and care for 4 to 6 quiet hens (no roosters) who would in return provide me with natural bug and weed control, fresh eggs, fertilizer and great companionship. I would also like to give my family an opportunity to learn about sustainable living. Along with growing our own vegetables this year, chickens would greatly enhance this experience.
I would like to have the right to keep egg laying chickens as well. Food prices are rising and are projected to double in the next few years. Barrie will be a more peaceful and stable place to live if residents have the right to provide for themselves. I would also like a duck.
